The numerous events held in London is aimed at changing the publics' attitude and discrimination surrounding mental health while creating awareness and highlighting the importance of looking after their mental wellbeing.

Join in the Time to Change – Get moving on the BBC Stage in Waltham Forest this Saturday at the Town Square. Put on your dancing shoes and join in the fun that is schedule to start at 11am.

The agenda for the day:

Rethink Walking for Well-being presents:

    * Tony Playford recently appeared on the plinth in Trafalgar Square engaging the audience and talking about mental health; what is madness?; am I mad? Tony is a bit of a veteran of festivals and is used to playing guitar and singing so he isn't fazed by being on stage. He is very keen on walking as a cure for depression and says it is far superior to drugs in that regard and has put his money where his mouth is as it were by training to be a walk leader.

Time to Change presents:

   * Get Moving and Dance which is a new approach to dance which brings together the key movements of sport in an easy to learn aerobic dance routine, incorporating moves from football, basketball, tennis and running. Two professional dances will lead a full body work out in a fun and new way to encourage audience members to get fit. It is designed to develop your cardio-vascular fitness by improving your agility, balance, coordination, endurance, flexibility, power and strength. As well as the physical benefits, this session will enhance mood, concentration and motivation leaving you feeling healthier and exhilarated.

Rethink Walking for Welbeing presents:

    * Anna Ware will be interviewed about her work as a volunteer on a number of community projects in London from green gyms to Walking for Wellbeing and has just been offered a job as community development officer at Camden Council. She has lots of experience, and is full of enthusiasm and will speak about getting active outdoors.

For more information on this event, please contact Keith Winestein at 02082152358 or email k.winestein@mind.org.uk

The 5.8 miles walk is a major public event and is also suitable for people with disabilities. At last, a charity challenge including people who are normally excluded from main stream charity challenges, to take part in a group event raising money while having fun.

The procession will be led by London Assembly Member & Deputy Chair of Transport Valerie Shawcross at 11.30am from the Maudsley Hospital. During the walk, there will be poetry reading in the park and other surprises. By the end, CoolTan Arts walkers will be joined by TV chef Rosemary Shrager and Julie McNamara who will encourage frolics and fun at the East Room of Tate Modern.

Disability Policy Advisor to the Mayor of London David Morris who has participated in the previous year will be joining again this year. He says ‘London’s most fascinating inclusive walk ever’.

TV Chef Rosemary Shrager supports CoolTan “because it gives people with mental distress a chance to express themselves and everyone needs an outlet. CoolTan helps people increase their confidence, move on in life and achieve their full potential through creating wonderful art.”

“A march of defiance is also a celebration, for many of us have been medicated to the high hilt, often without trail or jury to contain or control within us that great wave of sadness at man’s inhumanity to man. Having long weaned myself off the meds, I will not shuffle. Being on the more manic side of delirium, I will be dancing!” says celebrityJulie Mcnamara.

The money raised at the Sponsored Walk will ensure CoolTan Arts can continue to run top quality art workshops, reach more people with their services, and help them move from their dilapidated warehouse to suitable buildings with 21st century heating and toilets!

Get involved and help make mental health a global concern. For more information, visit www.cooltanarts.org.uk, call 02077012696 or email info@cooltanarts.org.uk to sign up for the sponsored walk.

Be part of the buzzing atmosphere where walkers can have fun and stay fit for a good cause.
The Midnight Walk 2009 will be held on Saturday, 5 September, in aid of Princess Alice Hospital, aimed at raising vital funds for end of life care services in Surrey, south west London and Middlesex.

After the success of its inaugural event, we would like to encourage everyone to sign up for a fun evening where they’ll tackle the challenge of walking a half marathon course – that’s 13.1 miles – through the neighbourhoods of Richmond, Teddington and Hampton.

Daley Thompson, double Olympic champion, and Kate Staples, ‘Gladiator’ legend and Commonwealth champion, are inviting everyone to get together with some of their family, friends, neighbours, work colleagues or mates from their sports club or activity group, and sign up for a night out with a difference!

The event starts at Pools on the Park, Richmond, with an energising warm-up routine to get everyone in the mood and to help them get to know their fellow walkers.

There will be plenty of refreshments to keep walkers going in those early hours – plus plenty of toilets!
To celebrate their sense of achievement, there will even be bacon baps and a hot drink to welcome everyone back at the finish.

The entry fee is only £15, which will pay for their very own Midnight Walk t-shirt, which they can wear during training in the build up to the event and for them to put on for the big night itself.

Please visit www.pah-midnightwalk.com where walkers can register online or download a registration form.
The website will provide everyone with even more reasons to join in on the night and make them that extra bit eager to get involved.
