Martial Arts
Martial arts training is an effective and efficient way to improve fitness flexibility, speed and agility. Training does not only involve kicking and punching but also covers key areas such as posture alignment, core strength, stability, balance and coordination, injury prevention and mental focus, alertness and response.
Martial arts training will give you a complete workout combining aerobic and anaerobic exercise together with effective breathing and efficient oxygen recovery techniques. Those who keep fit with martial arts have found that no other work out is as varied, demanding, challenging and rewarding.
We offer instruction in various forms of martial arts including:
Each form is quite distinct from the other, from the high intensity of Thai boxing to slow relaxed manner of Tai Chi. We offer group training for up to eight people at organised venues of your choice. And of course training can be modified to suit all ages.
Disciplines
Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art dating back to the 1500s. Its movements can be considered as part sparring and part dance, and it is played to music. Capoeira is a non-aggressive martial art often played between two people creating a dialogue of movement with each other, both athletic and acrobatic in design. Capoeira is an excellent way of achieving muscle tone, strength, fluidity and overall physical fitness.
Muay Thai Boxing is the national sport of the Thai Society and has become more popular in the UK in recent years. Muay Thai, not unlike kickboxing, is a combination of kicks and punches with the inclusion of elbow and knee attacks and counter attacks, grappling, holds, locks and sweeps. Muay Thai improves muscular strength and endurance, improves reflexes and coordination and maximises calorie burn to increase lean muscle mass.
Shen Chi Do is a traditional form of martial art that combines a high powered combination of kicking techniques and unlimited level motions. This art involves throws, sweeps, locks, holds and weapon combat that develops coordination, speed and agility. The techniques ‘Katas’ used enhance confidence, discipline and mental alertness.
Taekwondo is a modern martial art from Korea that is characterised by its fast, high and spinning kicks, as well as some grappling and locks. Modern day Taekwondo is influenced by many other martial arts, including Japanese Karate. The objective is to test your strength in both physical and mental ways. The final goal is to achieve harmony with nature and oneself. Taekwondo can enhance self esteem, build confidence, develop discipline, teach self defence and strengthen your mind and body.
Tai Chi is a form of exercise which uses the basic movements of hand blows and kicks common in martial arts in a slow and graceful manner. Tai Chi, although not a practical means of self-defence is both a martial art and a health art. Its techniques have been known to promote physical fitness, agility, balance, strength and flexibility, strengthen the immune system, maintain youthfulness, relieve stress, calm the mind and promote relaxation.
